How to fold an origami telescope

Fold a navy square into a long tube that narrows toward the eyepiece, cut a brown square into a tall A-shaped tripod, and glue the tube on top pointing at the sky.

You need: A 15 cm navy square, a 12 cm brown square, scissors and a glue stick. Medium, 8 steps, about 12 minutes.

Steps

  1. Tube: edges to the middle. Start with the navy square, white side up. Fold the top and bottom edges to meet on the middle line.
  2. Tube: fold in half. Fold the top edge down onto the bottom edge to make a long navy strip.
  3. Tube: taper it. Fold a thin slanted sliver behind along the top and the bottom, from nothing at the right end to 1 cm at the left, so the tube narrows.
  4. Tripod: new sheet. Set the tube aside. Take the brown square, brown side up.
  5. Tripod: fold in half. Fold the left edge over onto the right edge.
  6. Tripod: cut the legs. Cut through both layers from the top of the fold to 2 cm from the right at the bottom. Then cut from the fold a third of the way down to 3.5 cm from it.
  7. Tripod: open it. Unfold the paper. Now it's a tall A with two legs spread apart.
  8. Glue on the tube. Glue the middle of the tube onto the top of the tripod, wide end up and to the right, aiming at the stars.

Look at the stars!

Draw a white ring near the wide end of the tube and a little knob where it meets the tripod.
