How to fold an origami scooter
Fold a paper strip in half and turn it up at one end: the low part is the deck, the tall part the stem. Add a black T-bar on top and two round wheels.
You need: An orange strip 1.2 × 15 cm, a black strip 1 × 3 cm, two 2 cm black squares and a glue stick. Medium, 14 steps, about 12 minutes.
Steps
- Frame: fold in half. Start with the long strip, white side up. Fold it in half the long way, bottom edge up to the top edge. Colour shows on both sides.
- Frame: turn up the stem. About halfway along, fold the right part up on a slant so it stands up and leans back a little. The low part is the deck, the tall part the stem.
- T-bar: new sheet. Set the frame aside. Take the thin black strip, white side up.
- T-bar: fold in half. Fold it in half the long way, bottom edge up to the top.
- T-bar: round the grips. Fold the four corners a little way behind to round the ends of the handles.
- Wheel 1: new sheet. Set the T-bar aside. Take a small black square, white side up.
- Wheel 1: corners in. Fold all four corners in to meet in the middle.
- Wheel 1: hubcap. Fold each point back out a little, so a small white square shows in the middle.
- Wheel 1: round it. Fold the four points of the square a little way behind, so the wheel looks round.
- Wheel 2: new sheet. Set the first wheel aside and take the other black square, white side up.
- Wheel 2: corners in. Fold all four corners in to the middle.
- Wheel 2: hubcap. Fold each point back out a little.
- Wheel 2: round it. Fold the four points behind to round it off.
- Put it together. Glue the frame onto the wheels: one wheel under the back of the deck, one under the stem. Glue the T-bar across the top of the stem.
Kick and glide!
Draw a brake over the back wheel and some grip tape on the deck. Push off and zoom!
