How to fold an origami seal with a ball
A kite folded in half stands on end as the seal's body. Outside reverse folds bend the thin top into a head and curl the bottom into tail flippers. A rounded red square is the ball.
You need: 1 grey square (15 cm) and 1 small red square (5 cm), glue and a black pen. Medium, 10 steps, about 12 minutes.
Steps
- Crease the middle. White side up, turned like a diamond, fold the top corner down to the bottom corner, crease and unfold.
- Kite. Fold the top and bottom edges at the left end in to lie along the middle crease, like a kite. The left point is the head.
- Narrow the other end. Fold the edges at the right point in a little way too, so the tail end gets slimmer.
- Fold in half. Fold the top half down onto the bottom half along the middle crease. The long fold on top is the back.
- Bend the head. Outside-reverse-fold the thin left tip up over the folded edge: front layer forward, back layer behind. That's the head and nose.
- Curl the flippers. Outside-reverse-fold the tip of the wide right point up the same way, on a steep crease, for the tail flippers.
- Sit it up. Turn the seal so the head points up, leaning back a little, and the folded edge, its chest, faces right.
- Ball: new sheet. Set the seal aside. Take the small red square, red side up.
- Ball: round it. Fold all four corners a little way behind, so the square turns into a round ball.
- Balance the ball. Glue the ball on the tip of the nose, a little behind it.
Ta-da!
Draw a shiny eye, a black nose at the tip and a few whiskers.
