How to fold an origami sitting fox

Three squares make a whole fox: the head is the classic fox face, the body is a tall kite with a white chest, and the tail is a thin kite whose white tip sticks up beside the body.

You need: 3 square sheets the same size and colour, and a glue stick. Easy, 14 steps, about 8 minutes.

Steps

  1. Head: make a triangle. Start with the head. Fold the top corner down to meet the bottom corner.
  2. Head: ears up. Fold the left and right corners up so they point above the top edge.
  3. Head: turn it over. Flip the head so the smooth side faces you. The head is done.
  4. Tail: new sheet. Set the head aside. Take the second square, white side up, turned like a diamond.
  5. Tail: crease the diagonal. Fold the left corner to the right corner, crease, and unfold.
  6. Tail: make a kite. Fold the two lower edges in to lie along the centre crease. The white top will be the tip of the tail.
  7. Tail: fold it in half. Fold the left half behind along the centre crease, so the tail is thin.
  8. Tail: shorten it. Fold the long thin point behind, about a quarter of the way up from the bottom.
  9. Body: new sheet. Set the tail aside. Take the third square, white side up, turned like a diamond.
  10. Body: crease the diagonal. Fold the left corner to the right corner, crease, and unfold.
  11. Body: make a tall kite. Fold the two upper edges in to lie along the centre crease.
  12. Body: turn it over. Flip the kite over so the smooth side faces you.
  13. Body: white chest. Fold the bottom point up on a line between the two side corners, so its white side shows.
  14. Glue it together. Glue the tail behind the body so its white tip sticks up at the side, then glue the head over the body's top point.

What does the fox say?

Draw two eyes and a nose at the tip of the snout.
