How to fold an origami snail
Two squares: roll the bottom of the small one up into a shell with a curly lip, fold the big one into a kite, fold it in half and lift its long point for the head. Glue the shell on and draw its spiral.
You need: 2 square sheets: a 10 cm brown one for the shell and a 15 cm beige one for the body, a glue stick and a pen. Easy, 12 steps, about 8 minutes.
Steps
- Shell: roll the bottom. Start with the small square, coloured side up, turned like a diamond. Fold the bottom corner up a little.
- Shell: roll again. Roll the folded edge up again, the same height.
- Shell: and again. Roll the folded edge up again, the same height.
- Shell: round it. Fold the left, right and top corners behind, so the shell is round on top.
- Body: new sheet. Set the shell aside. Take the big square, white side up, turned like a diamond.
- Body: crease the diagonal. Fold the left corner to the right corner, crease, and unfold.
- Body: make a kite. Fold the two lower edges in to lie along the centre crease.
- Body: top point down. Fold the top point down to where the flaps meet.
- Body: fold in half. Fold the left half behind the right half.
- Body: lay it down. Turn it so the fold is at the bottom and the long point is on the right.
- Body: lift the head. Fold the long point up so it stands up at the front. That's the head.
- Glue on the shell. Glue the shell over the back half of the body, with its rolled lip along the bottom.
Slow and steady!
Draw a spiral on the shell and an eye on the head.
