How to fold an origami snake
Fold a long strip in half, snip a head and a pointy tail, then fold it down and back again and again into a zigzag. Draw an eye, a forked tongue and a diamond pattern.
You need: 1 strip of green paper about 30 × 5 cm (cut along the long side of an A4 sheet), and scissors. Easy, 8 steps, about 5 minutes.
Steps
- Fold in half. Lay the strip white side up and fold it in half lengthwise, bottom edge up to the top edge.
- Snip the head. At the right end, snip off both corners to make a blunt pointed head.
- Snip the tail. At the left end, cut a long thin point from 4 cm in on each edge to the middle of the end.
- Zig. 7 cm from the tail tip, fold the rest of the strip down on a slant so it points down and a little to the right.
- Zag. 6 cm further on, fold the strip back on a slant so it points straight right again.
- Zig again. Another 6 cm on, fold it down to the right again, just like the first time.
- Zag again. 6 cm further, fold it back to point right, leaving the head end free.
- Lay it level. Turn the snake so its zigzag runs level and the head end tips up.
Hissss!
Draw an eye on the head, a forked tongue flicking out of its nose, and a row of diamonds along its body.
