How to fold an origami sock
A long folded strip with a white cuff bends out into a foot. A little triangle fills in the heel and a folded cap covers the toe, both in a second colour.
You need: 1 sheet of A4 or Letter paper, plus a 10 cm and a 7.5 cm square in a second colour, a glue stick and a white pen. Medium, 13 steps, about 12 minutes.
Steps
- Fold the cuff. Start coloured side up. Fold a strip about two fingers wide at the top down. It will be the white cuff.
- Turn it over. Flip the paper over, keeping the white strip at the top.
- Sides to the centre. Fold the left and right edges in to meet in the middle.
- Fold in half. Fold in half from left to right, making a long narrow strip.
- Fold out the foot. About a third of the way up, fold the bottom of the strip out to the right on a slant, so its end stands straight up. That's the foot.
- Round the toe. Fold the two corners at the end of the foot behind a little.
- Toe: new sheet. Set the sock aside. Take the small square of the second colour, coloured side up.
- Toe: fold the side behind. Fold the left side behind, a bit less than halfway, so you have a tall strip.
- Toe: round the end. Fold the two right-hand corners behind, just like the toe of the sock.
- Heel: new sheet. Set the toe aside. Take the bigger square of the second colour, white side up.
- Heel: fold a triangle. Fold the top right corner down onto the bottom left corner, making a triangle.
- Heel: round the corner. Fold the square corner at the bottom left behind a little.
- Glue it together. Glue the sock on the heel so the triangle fills the slanted corner at the back. Glue the toe cap over the end of the foot.
Cosy toes!
Draw white stripes across the leg. Fold a second sock the other way round for a pair, and peg them on a string.
