How to fold an origami tennis racket

Fold the edges of an A4 sheet in to make a frame round a white middle, then round it off. A folded strip is the handle, a small square the ball. Draw the strings.

You need: 1 A4 sheet and 1 square as wide, both blue on one side, 1 small yellow-green square, a black pen and a glue stick. Medium, 11 steps, about 12 minutes.

Steps

  1. Head: sides in. Start white side up, short edges at top and bottom. Fold the left and right edges in a little, about a tenth of the way.
  2. Head: top and bottom in. Fold the top and bottom edges in the same amount. Now a coloured frame goes all round the white middle.
  3. Head: corners behind. Fold the four corners behind. Keep the folds on the coloured frame.
  4. Head: round it. Fold the eight new corners behind a tiny bit, so the head is round.
  5. Handle: new sheet. Set the head aside. Take the blue square, white side up.
  6. Handle: sides to the middle. Fold the left and right edges to the middle.
  7. Handle: again. Fold the new side edges to the middle again.
  8. Handle: in half. Fold the left half behind. The handle is a thin strip.
  9. Ball: new sheet. Set the handle aside. Take the small yellow-green square, coloured side up.
  10. Ball: corners behind. Fold all four corners behind, so the eight edges are the same length.
  11. Put it together. Glue the handle behind the bottom of the head. Lay the racket on a slant and put the ball by the end of the handle.

Game, set, match!

Draw the strings across the white middle, up and down and side to side. Wrap the grip with slanted lines and curve two seams on the ball.
