How to fold an origami tomato
A red square folds behind at its edges and corners into a plump round tomato, and a small green square folds into the star-shaped calyx on top.
You need: 1 red square, 1 green square about half as wide, and a glue stick. Easy, 7 steps, about 5 minutes.
Steps
- Tomato: fold top and bottom behind. Start with the red square, red side up. Fold a thin strip at the top and at the bottom behind.
- Tomato: fold the corners behind. Fold all four corners behind, big folds.
- Tomato: round it off. Fold the eight new little corners behind, just a tiny bit each, so the tomato is nice and round.
- Calyx: new sheet. Set the tomato aside. Take the small green square, white side up, like a diamond.
- Calyx: make a triangle. Fold the top corner down to meet the bottom corner.
- Calyx: spread the points. Fold the left and right corners down, creasing from just beside the middle of the top edge, so they point down and out like a star.
- Glue on the tomato. Glue the tomato behind the green star, so the star sits at the top of the red.
