How to fold an origami volcano
Fold a brown cone with a flat crater on top, a red-orange kite of lava that runs down its side, and a round grey puff of smoke, then glue them together.
You need: A 15 cm brown square, a 7.5 cm red-orange square, a 7.5 × 5 cm grey piece and a glue stick. Easy, 8 steps, about 7 minutes.
Steps
- Cone: fold in half. Start with the brown square, white side up, turned like a diamond. Fold the bottom corner up to the top corner.
- Cone: flat top. Fold the top point behind, 3 cm down from the tip. The cone now has a flat top: the crater.
- Lava: new sheet. Set the cone aside. Take the red-orange square, white side up, turned like a diamond.
- Lava: long point. Fold the two lower edges in so they meet along the middle. The bottom becomes a long point.
- Lava: turn it over. Flip it over so the smooth red-orange side faces you.
- Smoke: new sheet. Set the lava aside. Take the grey piece, grey side up, long side across.
- Smoke: round it. Fold all four corners a little way behind to make a soft round puff.
- Glue it together. Glue the smoke puff behind the top of the cone, a little to the right. Glue the lava over the crater, long point down the cone, its top bursting out.
It's erupting!
Draw a few little rocks flying out of the crater. Stand it by your dinosaurs.
