How to fold an origami spouting whale
Fold a kite in half for a deep whale body, push the tail up with an outside reverse fold and blunt the head. A little folded splash sits on top.
You need: 1 blue square (15 cm) and 1 small light blue square (5 cm), glue and a black pen. Medium, 10 steps, about 10 minutes.
Steps
- Crease the middle. White side up, turned like a diamond, fold the top corner down to the bottom corner, crease and unfold.
- Kite. Fold the top and bottom edges at the left end in to lie along the middle crease, like a kite. The left point is the tail.
- Fold in half. Fold the top half down onto the bottom half along the middle crease. The long fold on top is the back.
- Raise the tail. Outside-reverse-fold the thin left end up on a slanted crease: front layer forward, back layer behind, so the tail sticks up.
- Blunt the head. Fold the right point behind on an upright crease, both layers together, so the head is blunt.
- Flat belly. Fold the bottom point behind too, both layers together, so the belly is flat.
- Splash: new sheet. Set the whale aside. Take the small light blue square, white side up, turned like a diamond.
- Splash: triangle. Fold the top corner down to the bottom corner.
- Splash: spray. Fold the left and right corners up past the top edge, slanting outwards, like two jets of water.
- Glue the splash on. Glue the whale over the bottom point of the splash, so the spray rises from the top of its head.
Thar she blows!
Draw a small eye near the head and a long smiling mouth line.
