How to fold an origami zebra face
Fold a long kite into a horse-shaped face, pop two ears out of a smaller sheet and fold a black spike of mane for between them. Then draw the bold stripes.
You need: 2 squares, light grey on one side (15 cm and 11 cm), a small black square (4.5 cm), glue and a black pen. Medium, 14 steps, about 15 minutes.
Steps
- Head: crease the middle. Start with the big square, white side up, like a diamond. Fold the left corner to the right corner and unfold.
- Head: make a kite. Fold the two lower edges in to lie along the middle crease.
- Head: turn it over. Flip it over, keeping the long point at the bottom. It is all grey now.
- Head: forehead. Fold the top point behind, about 3.5 cm down, to make a flat forehead.
- Head: cheeks. Fold the left and right corners behind on upright creases, 4.5 cm either side of the middle.
- Head: muzzle. Fold the bottom point behind, about 4 cm up, so the long muzzle ends flat.
- Ears: new sheet. Set the head aside. Take the 11 cm grey square, white side up, like a diamond.
- Ears: a triangle. Fold the top corner down to the bottom corner.
- Ears: corners down. Fold the left and right corners down to meet the bottom point.
- Ears: pop them up. Fold each flap up from its outer corner so its point stands up above the top, leaning out a little.
- Mane: new sheet. Set the ears aside. Take the small black square, black side up, like a diamond.
- Mane: left side behind. Fold the left corner behind on an upright crease 1 cm left of the middle.
- Mane: a spike. Fold the right corner behind the same way. Now it is a tall thin black spike.
- Glue it together. Glue the mane behind the top of the head so the spike sticks up. Glue the ears behind both, the two points poking up either side.
Stripy!
Draw bold black stripes: arrows down the forehead and bands on the cheeks. Colour the muzzle black and give it two eyes.
